Strawberry Mojito
Description
The Strawberry Mojito recipe uses fresh strawberries and mint leaves that are muddled to release their juices and oils, mixing them with lime juice and sugar to build a vibrant, citrusy base. Adding white rum brings in the traditional spirit component, while club soda adds effervescence and lightness. The drink is served over ice, maintaining a cool temperature and balanced dilution.
The muddling technique gently crushes the fruit and herbs without straining, preserving texture and distributing flavor through the cocktail. The combination results in a sweet, tart, and herbal profile that is both refreshing and slightly fruity. Lime wedges in the mixture contribute acidity and brightness.
This cocktail suits casual social settings or summer relaxation. It can be garnished with lime wedges or strawberries for extra visual appeal. The recipe notes provide helpful alternatives like using vodka instead of rum or substituting other fresh herbs or fruits to adjust the flavor.
For preparation, no cocktail shaker is needed; everything is mixed directly in the glass. The method encourages experimenting with different fruits such as watermelon or peaches to customize the drink.
Ingredients
- 3-4 strawberries sliced (medium size)
- 8 mint leaf fresh
- ½ lime cut into 4 wedges
- ½ Tbsp white sugar or to taste
- ½ - 1 c. ice cubes
- 1 ½ oz white rum
- 2 oz club soda or enough to top off drink
Instructions
- Place mint leaves and strawberries into a glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and strawberries.
- Add juice from 1-2 limes wedges and the sugar, and muddle again. Do not strain the mixture.
- Add ice, filling the glass almost to the top. Pour the rum over the ice, and then top off with club soda.
- Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish lime wedge and/or strawberry.
Notes
- Use the handle of a wooden spoon if you don't have a muddler to crush the mint and strawberries.
- This mojito does not require shaking; it’s prepared by muddling ingredients then adding ice, rum, and soda.
- Mint is traditional, but fresh basil can be used for a different herbal note.
- You can substitute vodka for rum if preferred.
- Other fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, blueberries, or raspberries can replace strawberries for variation.
