Strawberry Overnight Oats
Description
Strawberry Overnight Oats are prepared by blending milk with ripe strawberries to form a smooth strawberry milk base. This liquid is mixed into rolled oats and refrigerated overnight, allowing the oats to soften and absorb the flavors. The result is a creamy, chilled breakfast with natural sweetness from the strawberries.
The recipe is flexible regarding milk choice, compatible with dairy or unsweetened non-dairy alternatives, which works well given the strawberry’s inherent sweetness. If the strawberries are not very sweet or out of season, adding a teaspoon or two of pure maple syrup to the blend enhances sweetness naturally.
Serving suggestions include topping with fresh strawberries, toasted coconut, nuts, nut butter, or dark chocolate chips to introduce texture and variation. Portions can be made in individual mason jars for convenience, with the provided quantities yielding either two large servings or four smaller ones depending on jar size.
This preparation makes for an easy, prepared-ahead breakfast option suitable for busy mornings, offering both fruit and whole grains in a refreshing combination.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy OK)
- 1 ½ cups strawberries frozen or fresh
- 1 ½ cups rolled oats ¾ cup in each jar
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the milk and strawberries. Blend until smooth. (If it's not strawberry season and your strawberries are not super sweet, consider adding 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup to this mixture to add a bit more sweetness.)
- Measure the rolled oats into a large mixing bowl.
- Pour the strawberry/milk mixture into the large bowl. Stir until all the ingredients have been incorporated.
- Transfer to mason jars, then cover, and refrigerate overnight.
- Enjoy cold the next morning, topped with fresh strawberries and additional toppings of your choice.
Notes
- Using 8 oz mason jars yields about four servings instead of two large ones.
- Choose unsweetened non-dairy milk to avoid extra sweetness since strawberries add natural sugar.
- In off seasons or with less sweet berries, add 1-2 teaspoons of pure maple syrup for sweetness.
- Enhance the oats by adding toasted shredded coconut, nuts, nut butter, or dark chocolate chips before serving.
- Fresh or frozen strawberries can be used interchangeably in the recipe.
