Strawberry Puree

Report
Strawberry Puree is made by cooking fresh or defrosted strawberries until soft and mashing them to a jam-like consistency. Optionally sweetened with maple syrup or honey and strained to remove seeds, this puree offers a versatile fruit base with a balance of natural sweetness and bright berry flavor. It can be used fresh or frozen for later use.

Description

The Strawberry Puree recipe starts with hulled strawberries cut into pieces, which are heated briefly to soften. Mashing the warm strawberries creates a thick, jammy texture that concentrates natural sweetness while retaining a fresh berry taste. Cooking the mixture on low finishes the puree and evaporates excess moisture. Straining removes seeds for a smoother texture, depending on preference.

This puree can be naturally sweetened with maple syrup or honey, adjusting the flavor to taste. It has a soft texture and bright strawberry flavor that makes it useful as a topping or ingredient for desserts, breakfasts, or beverages. Variations can include blending in other fruits like peaches or raspberries, or adding chia seeds for extra texture and nutrition.

Once cooled, the puree can be refrigerated for immediate use or frozen in ice cube trays for convenient portioning and long-term storage.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 200 g strawberries
  • maple syrup (if required)

Instructions

  1. Hull the strawberries then cut them into small chunks and then add them to a pan and heat on high for 3 minutes.
  2. Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the strawberries until they turn a jam (jelly) consistency.
  3. Cook on low for 5 minutes and then transfer to a bowl to cool. It will have some liquid in the bowl, but it will set after it has been left to cool. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you don't want the seeds.

Notes

  • Frozen strawberries should be fully defrosted before cooking to ensure even texture.
  • Sweeten with maple syrup or honey if desired, but avoid honey for babies under one year.
  • Strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds if you prefer a smoother texture.
  • Consider mixing in chia seeds to add protein and texture.
  • Freeze puree in ice cube trays for portioned use and store cubes in a freezer bag for longer storage.
