Strawberry Waffles

Strawberry Waffles combine classic waffle batter with a fresh strawberry sauce cooked down with sugar and cornstarch to create a warm, fruity topping. The waffles are tender and lightly crisp from cooking in a waffle iron, enhanced by vanilla and melted butter in the batter. The cooked strawberries soften to a thickened syrup that contrasts nicely with whipped cream and a garnish of fresh mint if desired. This recipe balances sweet and tart flavors and offers a homemade touch for breakfast or brunch occasions.

Description

Strawberry Waffles feature a waffle batter made from flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, eggs, vanilla, milk, and melted butter, which produces a light and tender texture once cooked in a waffle iron. Alongside the waffles, a strawberry sauce is prepared by simmering fresh, hulled strawberries with sugar and a small amount of cornstarch, which helps thicken the sauce as the berries soften and release their juice. The warm sauce is spooned generously over the freshly made waffles and complemented by dollops of whipped cream, providing a creamy contrast. Optional mint sprigs add a fresh aroma and decorative touch.

The combination of slightly crispy waffles and warm, smooth strawberry sauce creates a pleasant balance in texture and flavor, suitable for special breakfasts or weekend brunches. The dessert-like quality also allows it to be enjoyed as a sweet treat any time of day.

Cooking the sauce while the waffles are baking saves time, and using cooking spray on the waffle iron prevents sticking, ensuring easy waffle removal and maintaining their structure.
