String Bean Chicken Panda Express
Description
This recipe replicates a Panda Express classic by marinating thin slices of chicken breast in a mix of hoisin, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and Shaoxing wine, which tenderizes and flavors the meat. The chicken is quickly browned in a hot pan, then set aside. The string beans are sautéed briefly, then steamed covered with a bit of water to achieve a tender-crisp texture. Garlic is added near the end for fragrant highlights. The prepared sauce, combining chicken broth, soy, sesame oil, and cornstarch, is added to the pan to thicken and glaze the dish. The result is a balanced stir-fry with juicy chicken and bright green beans coated in a glossy, savory sauce. The ingredients reflect typical Chinese-American flavors with a home-prepared ease.
Ingredients
For the Chicken and Marinade:
- 2 chicken breast Thinly Sliced, boneless skinless
- 1 Tbsp hoisin sauce
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp corn starch
- 1 Tbsp Shaoxing wine or Dry Sherry
For the Sauce and Green Beans:
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 3 Tbsp vegetable oil divided
- 1 lb string beans ended trimmed and cut in half
- 1 Tbsp garlic minced
- 1 Tbsp Shaoxing wine or Dry Sherry
Instructions
- Add all the chicken and marinade ingredients into a large bowl and stir to thoroughly combine all the ingredients and make sure that the chicken is completely covered in the sauce. Allow the chicken to marinade for at least 30 minutes or you can marinade overnight in the refrigerator.
- Make the sauce by stirring together the chicken broth, soy sauce, sesame oil and the cornstarch. Then set aside.
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium high heat until the pan is hot. Add in 1 Tbsp of the vegetable Oil. Then added in the marinaded chicken and cook until the chicken is browned on both sides. Move the chicken to a separate plate or bowl. Leave any remaining oil in your pan.
- Then add in the remaining vegetable oil to your pan and add in the green beans. Sauté the green beans for 1-2 minutes, then add in 1/4 cup of the water to pan, cover and steam the green beans until they are tender (1-2 minutes).
- Uncover, add in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute or until the garlic is aromatic. Then add in the shaoxing wine to the pan and use it to de-glaze the pan. Then add in the sauce that you have set aside in step 2. Continue to heat and bring the mixture to a low simmer.
- Stir and add the chicken back to the pan. Heat everything together for 30 seconds to allow the the sauce to thicken. Once the sauce is thick, serve warm and enjoy! You can also serve over rice if you prefer. Enjoy!
