Stuffed Bread Rolls

These stuffed bread rolls with cheese, ham, and sour cream are made with leftover bread rolls. They are perfect to serve with soup or as a popular party snack.

  • 4-6 bread rolls depending on size, Note 1
  • 1 cup cheese grated, 120 g, Cheddar or Gouda; Note 2
  • oz ham 100 g, Note 3, cooked
  • 1 small red bell pepper or half a larger one
  • ½ cup sour cream 125 g, Note 4
  • ½ teaspoon paprika Note 5, sweet, powder
  • sea salt fine
  • black pepper fine

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F/ 200°C. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Halve the bread rolls and place the halves on the baking tray.4-6 bread rolls
  3. Filling mixture: Grate the cheese, chop the ham, and pepper into small cubes. Place them all in a bowl and add the sour cream. Add some sweet paprika powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well. 1 cup cheese/ 120 g + 3½ oz cooked ham/ 100 g + 1 small red bell pepper + ½ cup sour cream/ 125 g + ½ teaspoon sweet paprika powder + fine sea salt and black pepper
  4. Stuff bread rolls: Spread the filling mixture generously on the halved bread rolls.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes or until the bread is crispy and the cheese mixture is golden and melted.

Notes

  • Bread: The best are day-old bread rolls. However, fresh or frozen and slightly thawed will also do. If frozen, let them defrost only enough for you to be able to split them.
  • Cheese: You can use any other good-melting cheese you like. 
  • Ham: You can also use chopped bacon, lean bacon cubes, or pancetta cubes. 
  • Substitutes for sour cream: Cream cheese, creme fraiche, or smetana.
  • Spices: Add some oregano or Italian herbs if you like.
