Stuffed Figs with Cambozola, Walnuts, and Honey

This recipe features ripe Brown Turkey figs stuffed with cubes of Cambozola cheese, then baked briefly until the cheese softens. Topped with toasted walnuts and drizzled with honey, it balances creamy, nutty, and sweet flavors. The figs are scored to allow filling and warming, creating a rich and elegant appetizer or snack that combines fresh fruit with soft blue cheese and crunchy nuts.

Description

Stuffed Figs with Cambozola, Walnuts, and Honey use whole figs cut with an X on top to hold cubes of Cambozola cheese inside. The figs are baked at 350°F until the cheese starts to soften but not melt completely, preserving texture. Toasted walnuts add a crunchy contrast, while a honey drizzle finishes with a bright sweetness that complements the creamy, earthy cheese and ripe, mellow figs.

The dish is served warm, making it suitable as an appetizer, snack, or part of a cheese board. Pairing with crusty bread is suggested to add texture and make the dish more substantial. The blend of sweet, tangy, nutty, and creamy elements offers a sophisticated flavor combination without complexity in preparation.

Walnuts are toasted in a dry skillet until aromatic and lightly browned to enhance their flavor and crunch. Cheese cubes can be adjusted in size based on fig dimensions, generally about one-third ounce each. Alternative soft cheeses like Brie or goat cheese can be used for variations in flavor and creaminess. Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of warm filling and fresh figs.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 large figs (I used Brown Turkey)
  • 3-1/2 ounces Cambozola cheese , cut into cubes*
  • 1/4 cup walnuts chopped, toasted
  • honey , for drizzling the stuffed figs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F with the rack in the middle position. Cut the stems off of the figs. Use a paring knife to cut an "X" in the top of each fig, stopping about 2/3 of the way down.
  2. Gently open the fig and stuff with a cube of Cambozola. Place stuffed figs in an ungreased baking pan or a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 5-8 minutes, until cheese is just beginning to soften.
  3. Remove figs from the oven, sprinkle with chopped toasted walnuts, and lightly drizzle with honey. Serve immediately, either on their own or with slices of crusty bread.

Notes

  • Cut Cambozola cheese into cubes approximately one-third of an ounce, adjusting to fig size.
  • Toast walnuts in a skillet over medium-high heat, stirring often, until they are lightly browned and aromatic, about 5 minutes.
  • Different soft cheeses such as Brie, goat cheese, or blue cheese can be substituted to vary the flavor profile.
  • Serve stuffed figs immediately after drizzling honey to maintain texture and flavor contrasts.
