Sugar Free Cranberry Sauce (Keto)

This sugar free cranberry sauce is made by simmering fresh or frozen cranberries with powdered sweetener, water, and optional brandy until the berries burst and the mixture thickens. The sauce offers the tartness of cranberries with sweetness from a keto-friendly sweetener without added sugar. Cooking reduces the liquid volume, concentrating flavors and creating a glossy sauce that firms upon cooling. It serves as a low-carb alternative cranberry accompaniment.

Description

Sugar Free Cranberry Sauce (Keto) begins with combining cranberries, a powdered sweetener substitute for sugar, water, and optionally brandy in a pot brought to a boil. Simmering on medium heat allows the cranberries to pop and the sauce to reduce and thicken as water evaporates. The cooked sauce will develop a bright, slightly chunky consistency typical of traditional cranberry sauce but without sugar.

The sauce balances the natural tartness of cranberries with the sweetness of the sweetener, creating a flavorful condiment suitable for low-carb or keto diets. Optional flavor variations include adding vanilla extract, cinnamon, or orange zest to adjust aromatics and depth.

This sauce makes about 6 servings of 2 tablespoons each, with approximately 7 grams net carbs per serving. It is a suitable alternative for those managing carbohydrate intake who want a festive cranberry addition.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 oz cranberries 350g, fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup powdered sweetener 150g (use ¾ cup if you prefer more tartness)
  • 1 tablespoon brandy optional
  • ¼ cup water 60ml

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in a pot. Bring to the boil.
  2. Reduce to a medium heat and cook for around 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from the heat once the cranberries have popped and the liquid is reducing. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

  • Variations include adding 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon cinnamon or a cinnamon stick, or 1 tablespoon orange zest to enhance flavor.
  • The sauce yields about 250 grams total and serves 6 portions of 2 tablespoons each.
  • Using fresh or frozen cranberries is equally effective; frozen cranberries do not require thawing before cooking.
