Sweet and Sour Meatballs Recipe
Description
This recipe forms meatballs from ground beef mixed with quick oats for texture, evaporated milk to add moisture, chopped onion, egg, and various seasonings including salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and chili powder to add mild heat and depth. These are shaped and placed in a glass baking dish.
The sauce is prepared separately using ketchup and brown sugar for a balance of sweet and tangy, combined with onion, liquid smoke for a smoky flavor, and garlic powder for aromatics. This sauce is poured over the raw meatballs before baking.
Baking at 350°F for one hour slowly cooks the meatballs through while allowing the sauce to thicken and caramelize slightly, coating each meatball. The long bake time helps the flavors meld and results in meatballs that are both flavorful and moist.
The dish serves as a hearty main course often enjoyed with sides like rice or vegetables. Its preparation in a single baking dish simplifies cooking and cleanup.
