Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons red chili pepper finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Combine water, sugar, and vinegar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add garlic, ginger, and chopped chili peppers to the saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  3. Mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Stir into the saucepan and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate.
