Szechuan Green Beans
Description
Szechuan Green Beans start with trimmed green beans that are rinsed and dried. They are stir-fried in vegetable oil to slightly blister and soften while maintaining a crisp texture. Fresh minced garlic and ginger are added to release aroma and flavor.
Seasoning with soy sauce and garlic chili paste brings a salty umami and spicy depth, balanced by the toasted sesame oil’s nutty finish. The sauce thickens slightly during cooking, coating each bean evenly. This method preserves the green beans’ freshness and produces a flavorful, spicy side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound green beans
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger minced, fresh, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon garlic chili paste or Sambal Oelek, more to taste
- ½ teaspoon sesame oil toasted
Instructions
- Rinse and trim green beans. Pat dry.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add green beans and stir-fry 3-4 minutes.
- Add garlic and ginger, cook 30 seconds, or until fragrant. Stir in remaining ingredients and cook 3 minutes or until beans are tender-crisp and sauce is slightly thickened
