Taco Bell Fiesta Potatoes

Taco Bell Fiesta Potatoes are cubed russet potatoes coated in a seasoned flour mixture with onion, garlic, paprika, and cayenne powders, then deep-fried until golden and crispy. They are topped with warm cheese sauce and a dollop of sour cream, creating a rich and spicy snack or side dish. The coating gives the potatoes a flavorful crust while the toppings add a creamy and tangy balance.

Description

This recipe for Taco Bell Fiesta Potatoes transforms simple russet potatoes into a crunchy, flavorful treat. The potatoes are peeled and cut into half-inch chunks, then coated evenly in a seasoned flour blend that includes onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper, which provide a subtle heat and depth. Deep-frying at 350 degrees yields a crisp exterior and tender interior. After frying, the potatoes are topped with warm canned cheese sauce and a measure of sour cream, lending a creamy texture and cooling counterpoint to the spices.

The mix of spices in the flour coating adds complexity without overwhelming the natural potato flavor. The deep-frying method ensures an all-over crispness that baking would not achieve as effectively. Served warm, these potatoes work well as a side or snack for gatherings. The cheese and sour cream toppings can be extended with extras like guacamole or onion for added texture and freshness.

The recipe includes tips for garnishing with additional toppings like guacamole, chopped onions, and shredded cheese, which can introduce new flavors and improve presentation. The spiced crust and combination with creamy sauces make it a versatile item that complements casual meals.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 pounds russet potato
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 8 ounces cheese sauce canned
  • 4 ounces sour cream

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel potatoes.  Cut potatoes into ½ inch to ¾ inch cubes.  Rinse potatoes off, and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350 degrees.
  3. Prepare seasoned flour for potatoes by combining flour, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper in a medium-sized bowl.
  4. Drop potato chunks into the flour, and coat well.  Shake off excess seasoned flour before placing into the deep fryer.
  5.  Deep fry for about 10 to 12 minutes or until the potatoes are golden brown.  Remove potatoes from the fryer, and drain on wire rack.
  6. Heat cheese sauce, pour 2 ounces of cheese sauce over potatoes, and top with 1 ounce of sour cream.

Notes

  • For extra toppings, add guacamole, chopped onions, or shredded cheese before serving.
  • Make sure to shake off excess flour before frying to prevent clumping.
