Taco Fries Recipe
Description
This recipe uses frozen French fries baked until crispy. Meanwhile, ground beef is cooked with chili powder, onion powder, sea salt, and oregano, providing a warmly spiced filling. Once fries are golden, the taco meat is spooned over them, then sharp cheddar cheese is added to melt over the hot toppings. Optional toppings such as rinsed black beans, halved cherry tomatoes, sliced jalapenos, fresh cilantro, and sour cream add layers of flavor, spiciness, and creaminess.
The dish offers a combination of crispy, savory, cheesy, and fresh components that can be customized to personal taste. It functions well as a casual meal or appetizer where guests can choose their preferred toppings.
Notes indicate there is no fixed amount for the toppings and encourage varying quantities to suit preference. Additional additions like guacamole, red onions, or pico de gallo can also be incorporated to alter flavor and texture.
Ingredients
- 1 bag French Fries 20-ounces total, frozen
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded sharp
The Taco Fries Toppings
- black beans drained and rinsed
- cherry tomato cut in half
- jalapeno pepper sliced
- cilantro
- sour cream
- lime slices
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and cook the fries according to the package directions, until they are golden and crispy.
- While the fries are baking, prep the topping ingredients and cook the taco meat. Add the beef to a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the chili powder, onion powder, salt, and oregano and cook until the meat is no longer pink, about 10 minutes.
- Transfer the crispy fries to a serving platter and top with the hot taco meat. Sprinkle the cheese on top and let it melt.
- Top with any or all of the toppings and serve right away.
Notes
- Adjust the quantities of toppings to your liking; there is no strict measure for black beans, tomatoes, jalapenos, or cilantro.
- Consider adding guacamole, red onion, or pico de gallo to customize flavor and texture.
- Serve the taco fries immediately so the fries remain crispy under the toppings.
