Taco Ground Beef Dip
Description
This dip is built in layers starting with softened cream cheese mixed with sour cream, half of the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, and canned mild green chiles for a creamy, mildly spicy base. Ground beef is browned and cooked with taco seasoning and water to infuse the meat with southwestern flavors. The mixture is layered over the cream cheese base, then topped with salsa and the remaining cheeses.
Baking the dish at 375°F for 25 minutes melts the cheeses and brings the layers together, resulting in a warm, bubbly dip with a browned cheese crust. The texture contrasts from the creamy cheese layer under the spiced meat and salsa, making it an appealing and hearty appetizer or snack.
Sour cream, tomatoes, green onions, shredded lettuce, black olives, cilantro, or additional toppings can be added after baking for extra freshness and texture. The dip can be prepared up to two days ahead and baked just before serving. Softening the cream cheese beforehand and using a hand mixer helps achieve a smooth spreadable base for easier layering and serving.
