Tahini Dressing
Description
The Tahini Dressing combines tahini paste as its base ingredient, known for its creamy, nutty qualities. It is whisked together with freshly squeezed lemon juice for brightness and acidity, minced garlic for pungency, and maple syrup which adds a subtle sweetness. Salt and freshly ground black pepper refine the seasoning. Water is gradually added to thin the texture to a pourable sauce depending on preference.
The result is a versatile dressing with a thick yet smooth texture that carries rich, earth-tone flavors balanced by citrus and a hint of sweetness. The garlic gives a mild spiciness, while the maple syrup tempers the acid in the lemon juice. This dressing complements raw or cooked vegetables, salads, or can be used as a dipping sauce.
The dressing stores well in the refrigerator for up to a week in an airtight container, making it convenient for meal prep. Stir or whisk before each use if it thickens on standing. Adjust the seasoning with extra lemon juice or maple syrup if needed before serving.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup tahini paste
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice fresh
- 2 tablespoons water more as needed, cold
- 1 to 2 teaspoons pure maple syrup can use honey
- 1 clove garlic minced
- salt to taste, kosher salt and freshly ground
- black pepper to taste, kosher salt and freshly ground
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together the tahini paste, lemon juice, water, maple syrup, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. If the dressing is a little too thick, you can always add a little more water until desired consistency is reached. Taste and add more lemon or maple syrup, if necessary.
Notes
- Keep the dressing in a sealed container refrigerated for up to one week to maintain freshness.
- If the dressing thickens after storage, whisk in a little cold water to loosen it before serving.
- Adjust lemon juice or maple syrup levels to suit your preferred balance of tanginess and sweetness.
