Tasty & Simple Hummus Recipe

This easy hummus recipe is quick & tasty and makes a great addition to your meze table. It's so easy, there's no reason to buy hummus from the supermarket.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 800 grams chickpeas drained (reserve around 50ml of the brine, tinned
  • 3 dessert spoons tahini
  • 1 clove garlic (peeled and crushed)
  • 1 large lemon juiced, fresh
  • 1 glug olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • salt to season
  • black pepper to season
  • chili flakes to decorate

Instructions

  1. Add your chickpeas & reserved brine to a bowl and mash them together.
  2. Add the tahini, oil and lemon juice.
  3. Mix them together, thoroughly.
  4. Now add the garlic, cumin & cayenne pepper.
  5. Season with salt & pepper.
  6. Mix again and do a taste test.
  7. Add more tahini or lemon juice to suit your taste.
  8. Add to a bowl and sprinkle the top with chilli flakes.
  9. Serve as a hummus dip for a snack or as part of your meze table alongside other dishes.

Notes

  • If you are using dried chickpeas, steep them in water overnight and then boil for around 1 hour before allowing to cool.
  • Our recipe is a quick hummus recipe and the tinned variety works well.
  • When drained, an 800g tin of chickpeas weighs around 400g.
  • If you are in Turkey, tinned chickpeas are haşlanmış nohut. Tahini is called tahin.
  • Calories per serving are approximate, depending on the amount of ingredients you use.
