Tempura Udon

Tempura Udon combines thick, chewy udon noodles with a light, flavorful broth made from bonito, anchovy soup stock, soy sauce, and mirin. The dish includes tempura shrimp, slices of kamaboko, and is topped with shichimi togarashi and green onions for a touch of spice and freshness. This hearty soup balances the savory broth with the crunchy tempura, creating a satisfying texture contrast. It is an approachable and filling meal suitable for warming up on a cool day.

Description

Tempura Udon brings together udon noodles and a clear broth infused with the umami flavors of dried bonito and anchovy soup stock, enriched by soy sauce and mirin. The broth is gently simmered to meld the ingredients without overpowering the noodles. The udon noodles are cooked separately to maintain their characteristic chewy texture. Slices of kamaboko add mild fish cake flavor and additional texture, while the tempura shrimp provide a crispy element that softens slightly in the broth. The dish is finished with green onions and a sprinkle of shichimi togarashi for a subtle heat and aromatic complexity.

This comforting bowl balances the deep flavors of the broth with varied textures, making it a nourishing bowl for lunch or dinner. The tempura adds a delicate crunch that contrasts nicely with the tender noodles and tender fish cake slices. The shichimi togarashi adds a nuanced spicy kick, complemented by the freshness of the green onions.

Tempura Udon is best served immediately while the tempura retains some crispness. The broth and noodles can be adjusted to taste, and using pre-packaged tempura can speed preparation. It's a satisfying dish that brings traditional Japanese ingredients together in one bowl.
