Tex-Mex Sloppy Joes

Tex-Mex Sloppy Joes feature ground beef cooked with onions, bell peppers, jalapeño, garlic, and corn in a spiced sauce made from ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, salsa, and multiple seasonings. The sauce simmers until thickened, coating the beef mixture with a tangy, mildly spicy glaze. Served on toasted hamburger buns, this filling offers a casual, flavorful sandwich with a balance of sweet, savory, and smoky notes.

Description

This Tex-Mex Sloppy Joes recipe starts by sautéing diced white onion, green bell pepper, and jalapeño in olive oil until softened. Ground beef is added and browned, then combined with garlic and drained corn for texture and sweetness. The sauce, made from ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, salsa, Worcestershire sauce, and a blend of chili powder, paprika, cumin, coriander, and oregano, is whisked together and poured over the meat mixture.

Simmering the combined ingredients allows the sauce to thicken and coats the beef and vegetables in a tangy, mildly smoky, and slightly sweet glaze with a spicy kick from the jalapeño and chili powders. The finished mixture is spooned onto toasted hamburger buns, making for a satisfying handheld meal with layered flavors and textures.

The balance of sweet, savory, and spiced elements in this dish showcases characteristics of Tex-Mex cuisine without requiring complex preparation, making these Sloppy Joes suitable for casual meals or family dinners.
