Texas Roadhouse Prime Rib Recipe

Report
This Texas Roadhouse Prime Rib recipe outlines a marinade-forward preparation of a large prime rib roast that marinates for two days before slow roasting in the oven. The process starts with a flavorful marinade containing salt, black pepper, sugar, liquid smoke, soy sauce, and garlic, which seasons the beef deeply. The roast is first seared at high temperature, then slow-cooked to desired doneness using a meat thermometer.

Description

The Texas Roadhouse Prime Rib Recipe features a substantial 7-pound prime rib roast marinated for two days to infuse the beef with a smoky, savory mixture of salt, black pepper, granulated sugar, liquid smoke, soy sauce, and minced garlic. After marinating, the roast is placed on a rack in a roasting pan and refrigerated overnight with the marinade poured over it. On cooking day, the roast is brought to room temperature, seared in a hot oven at 450°F for 30 minutes to develop a flavorful crust, then cooked at a lower temperature (250°F) for 2 to 2 ½ hours until it reaches the preferred internal temperature.

Use a meat thermometer to check doneness levels ranging from rare to medium well. The method ensures a tender interior and a browned, flavorful exterior. The recipe details the specific target temperatures for preferred doneness, allowing for precise final results.

This prime rib is suitable for a special dinner or holiday feast, carving thick juicy slices to serve alongside traditional sides.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 prime rib roast approximately 7 pounds, uncut

For the Marinade:

  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 Tablespoons black pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup liquid smoke
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup garlic minced

Instructions

  1. Make the marinade 2 days in advance.  Mix together the marinade ingredients.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  2. The day before cooking, place the prime rib roast on a rack in a large roasting pan.  Pour half of the marinade over the roast.  Flip the roast over and pour the remaining roast over the other side of the roast.
  3. Cover and refrigerate the roast overnight.
  4. The day of cooking, let the prime rib sit at room temperature for 1 hour before cooking so that it can come to room temperature.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. Bake the prime rib at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes until the outside of the roast is seared and browned.
  7. Then reduce the oven temperature to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Cook for 2-2 ½ hours depending on how you prefer your prime rib to be cooked (time and temperatures are listed in the recipe notes). Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the beef until it’s cooked to your preference. Start checking after it has cooked for 2 hours and then check every 15 minutes until it’s to the temperature you prefer.
  9. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the beef is cooked to the temperature that you desire.
  10. After the cook time, remove the prime rib from the oven. Cover it with foil and let it rest for 1 hour before slicing.
  11. Slice the roast against the grain is approximately 1/2 inch thick slices. Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!

Notes

  • Allow the roast to marinate for two full days to maximize flavor penetration.
  • Bring the roast to room temperature before cooking for even cooking.
  • Use a meat thermometer to cook the prime rib to your desired doneness: 120°F for rare, 130°F for medium rare, 140°F for medium, or 150°F for medium well.
