Texas Roadhouse Rolls

Texas Roadhouse Rolls are soft, fluffy yeast rolls enriched with butter, milk, and eggs, which contribute to their tender crumb and golden crust. The dough is carefully proofed and divided into twelve pieces, then baked to a light, airy texture. Accompanying the rolls is a cinnamon honey butter that adds a gentle sweet spice and creamy finish, making these rolls suitable for meals or snacks when brushed warm with the flavored butter.

Description

The Texas Roadhouse Rolls recipe focuses on a rich dough made from butter, milk, sugar, eggs, and bread flour, with active dry yeast creating a rise that results in soft, fluffy rolls. The combination of warm liquid ingredients and gradual kneading develops the gluten structure, while the subsequent rise transforms the dough into a tender bread with a slightly sweet flavor profile. These rolls are baked until golden and can be enhanced by spreading the cinnamon honey butter on top. This butter combines softened butter, confectioners' sugar, honey, and cinnamon, introducing a delicate warmth and sweetness that complements the bread's texture.

Preparation involves proofing the yeast and water mixture before adding other wet ingredients, followed by flour and kneading. After allowing the dough to double in size, it is divided evenly, shaped into rolls, and baked in a greased dish. The butter topping is prepared separately and served alongside the freshly baked rolls, enhancing their flavor.

These rolls suit dinner tables or can be served warm as a snack or accompaniment. The cinnamon honey butter, when spread over the warm rolls, adds a distinctive sweet-spiced note that can also be adjusted in sweetness or spice level according to preference, making this recipe adaptable.

  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar divided, 75 g
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • 1 cup whole milk warmed (about 105-115°F
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter melted, divided, 99 g
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 3 ½ cups bread flour 444.5 g

CINNAMON HONEY BUTTER

  • ¼ cup butter softened, unsalted; ½ stick / 57 g
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

ROLLS

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment, combine the water, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and yeast, letting it sit for about 5 minutes (or until sugar and yeast are dissolved). (Note, this will be a thick mixture.)
  2. Add in the remaining sugar, milk, 6 tablespoons butter, and salt and mix until just combined.
  3. Add in the egg and mix to combine.
  4. Add the flour to the yeast mixture, and mix for about 3 minutes at medium-high speed. Scrape the dough into the center of the bowl.
  5. Knead the dough on low speed for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Lightly spray a large bowl with nonstick cooking spray. Place the dough into the bowl.
  7. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours (or until doubled in size).
  8. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside
  9. Gently punch down on the risen dough to deflate it. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. (You can do this by continuing to divide the dough in half until you are down to 12 pieces. Or, roll the dough into a log and use a bench knife or stiff spatula to cut it into 12 pieces.)
  10. Round each piece into a smooth ball and place in the prepared baking dish, evenly spaced.
  11. Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until about doubled.
  12. Preheat the oven to 350°F when the rolls are nearing the end of their rise time.
  13. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. Remove from the oven and brush with the remaining tablespoon of melted butter. Serve warm with the cinnamon honey butter.

CINNAMON HONEY BUTTER

  1. In a medium bowl, combine butter, confectioners' sugar, honey, and cinnamon. Serve with the warm rolls.
