This seasoning blend combines sweet, salty, and smoky elements with the mild bitterness of turmeric and thickening power of cornstarch. Brown sugar adds caramelized sweetness, balanced by salt and pepper, while a mix of garlic salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and chili powder layers savory and mildly spicy notes. Turmeric adds subtle earthiness and a warm color. The cornstarch helps the rub adhere to the steak and promotes crust formation during grilling.
To use, sprinkle about one tablespoon over each steak, rub in, and let rest for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to penetrate. The steak can then be grilled, yielding a tasty, well-seasoned crust with balanced seasoning.
Leftover seasoning can be stored in an air-tight container and used for multiple steaks. This recipe’s amount is suitable for seasoning two to three average-sized steaks.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika

Instructions
- Stir together all the ingredients in a mixing bowl to thoroughly combine.
