Thai Peanut Sauce
Description
The Thai Peanut Sauce recipe uses smooth peanut butter mixed with water to create a creamy texture. Honey or palm sugar sweetens the sauce, while fresh lime juice provides acidity and balance. Red chili pepper flakes introduce a mild heat that can be adjusted to taste, accompanied by a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors. Stirring these ingredients well ensures a smooth, unified sauce that can be served at room temperature.
This sauce works well as a complement to grilled meats, fresh vegetables, or noodle dishes. It can be used as a dip or poured over salads for added richness and a mix of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. Adjusting the amount of chili flakes allows control over spiciness.
For storage, keep the sauce refrigerated and consume within 2-3 days. Heating is not recommended if honey is used, as it may alter the honey's properties. Use palm sugar or brown sugar alternatives if warming the sauce is desired.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons water
- ¼ cup honey or palm sugar
- 1 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
Instructions
- Cut a lime into half and squeeze the juice. You only need 1 teaspoon of lime juice in this recipe.
- After that, put 2 tablespoons of peanut butter in the container.
- Pour 2 tablespoons of water into the peanut butter.
- Stir it very well and like creamy texture.
- Next, put ¼ cup of honey or palm sugar into a container. (I used honey because it is easy to find at grocery stores.)
- Pour the creamy peanut butter mixture from step 4 into the honey.
- Add 1 teaspoon of red chili peppers flakes.
- Then, add ¼ teaspoon of salt.
- Lastly, add 1 teaspoon of fresh lime juice from step 1 into the honey mixture and stir it very well.
Notes
- Use smooth peanut butter and mix with water to achieve a creamy texture before combining with other ingredients.
- If warming the sauce, substitute honey with palm or brown sugar to preserve sweetness without denaturing honey's nutrients.
- Adjust red chili flakes to control spiciness or omit for a milder flavor.
- Refrigerate the sauce and use within 2-3 days for best freshness.
