Thanksgiving Stuffing with Bacon

This Thanksgiving Stuffing combines cubed French bread with cooked bacon, sautéed celery and onions, and seasoned with sage, salt, and pepper. Chicken broth moistens the mixture before baking covered and then uncovered to achieve a moist interior with a lightly crisp top. The dish balances smoky bacon flavor with traditional herbs and a hearty bread base, making it a comforting side for a holiday meal.

Description

The recipe begins by cubing a loaf of French bread and combining it with cooked small pieces of bacon. The bacon fat is retained and used to sauté chopped celery and onions, which softens the vegetables and imparts a smoky taste from the bacon grease. Sage and seasoning are added next to enhance the savory profile of the stuffing.

Chicken broth is stirred in to provide moisture, with the quantity adjusted depending on preference for wetter or drier stuffing. The mixture is transferred to a greased baking dish and baked first covered to keep moisture in, then uncovered to let the top brown and develop a slight crispness.

Served warm, this stuffing complements roast poultry or other main dishes typical in a Thanksgiving meal. It holds well for several days refrigerated when covered.
