The Best Air Fryer Fries

These air fryer fries are the easiest homemade french fries you'll ever make! They're crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious. Don't have an air fryer? Make them in the oven instead!

Instructions

  1. Wash your potatoes in cool water.
  2. Thoroughly dry clean potatoes with a paper towel.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees.
  4. Peel potatoes.
  5. Cut potatoes into 3/8 inch fries with a knife or fry cutter.
  6. Add the fries into a large bowl or plastic bag and toss with avocado oil until the fries are all completely coated.
  7. Season the top part of the fries with some of the salt and rosemary then toss the fries so the unseasoned fries are now on top. Season these fries with the remaining salt and rosemary and toss again.
  8. Place fries in the air fryer basket. The more space the fries have, the crispier they will get and the faster they will get there. The best way is to lay as many fries down in rows in a single layer with about a toothpick’s space between each fry.
  9. Air fry the fries at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Because every air fryer is different and several factors--such as humidity and fry size--can affect cook time, watch the fries carefully, especially after 15 minutes, and make adjustments as needed.
  10. After 20 minutes, pull out the fries, taste, and add more salt if needed. If some fries have not crisped up enough or you like extra crispy fries, flip or toss the fries around and continue to cook for 5-10 minutes more.
  11. Pull out fries, taste and add salt if necessary. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Oven Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees convention or 425 degrees conventional
  • Prepare the fries the same way as indicated above for the air fryer, then add the fries to a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • When preparing the baking sheet, crumple up the parchment paper first and then spread it back out to line the baking sheet. Doing so will help keep the parchment paper from sliding and provide more raised spots to keep the fries off the pan.
  • Place the fries in rows in a single layer with about a toothpick’s space between each fry.
  • Bake the fries for 20 minutes. Flip the fries and cook for 10-15 minutes more.
  • Be sure to watch the fries closely after you flip them.
  • Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
  • Make sure your potatoes are completely dry before peeling. Wet potatoes = soggy air fryer fries.
  • Space out your fries as much as possible to get them as crispy as possible. If you have too many fries to fit them all in the air fryer, do as many as you can fit into the air fryer and put the others in the oven.
  • Shake the air fryer basket every five minutes or so if you don't want to do a single layer. This will move around that fries and give all of them a chance to get fried.
  • Watch fries closely after the first 15 minutes because they can go from just undercooked to overcooked faster than you'd think.
  • Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking on a baking sheet. Crumple the parchment paper before putting it on the baking sheet to keep the paper from sliding and will raise the fries off a tad off the pan.
