The Best Baked Beans

This baked beans casserole blends ground beef, onion, bell pepper, and pork and beans into a savory dish, enhanced with barbecue sauce, ketchup, and a mix of flavorful condiments. The addition of cooked bacon on top adds crispness and smoky depth. Baking the dish covered and then uncovered creates a rich and cohesive casserole with a slightly caramelized bacon topping, making it ideal for family meals or gatherings.

Description

The Best Baked Beans feature a hearty mixture of ground beef, finely chopped onion, and bell pepper cooked together before combining with pork and beans and a combination of barbecue sauce, ketchup, spicy brown mustard, Worcestershire, soy sauce, and brown sugar. This blend simmers to marry the flavors, then is transferred to a casserole dish, topped with cooked bacon, and baked to develop a bubbly and flavorful dish. The slow bake softens the beans and melds the smoky, savory, and sweet components into a comforting casserole. The bacon on top crisps during the last minutes of baking, adding texture and richness.

This casserole works well as a satisfying side or main dish during casual meals and is filling enough to stand on its own.

After baking, letting it rest allows the flavors to settle and the casserole to thicken slightly, improving serving ease and taste. The cooked bacon slices should be crisp and add a pronounced smoky bacon flavor.
