The BEST Cranberry Sauce Recipe!
Description
The BEST Cranberry Sauce Recipe features fresh cranberries cooked gently in a mixture of dissolved white and brown sugars, orange juice, water, and cinnamon sticks. Adding a piece of orange peel during cooking infuses the sauce with subtle citrus oil aroma. As the cranberries heat, they burst, releasing their natural pectin and deep red color, which thickens the sauce as it cools down after cooking.
The texture becomes jam-like with a combination of whole popped berries and smooth syrup, suitable for spooning onto turkey, chicken, or sandwiches. The combination of white and brown sugar ensures balanced sweetness with a hint of molasses from the brown sugar, while the cinnamon adds warmth without overpowering the cranberries’ tartness.
This sauce can be garnished with freshly zested orange peel to brighten the flavors and add a fresh contrast to the cooked fruit. It’s a traditional accompaniment during holiday meals and can be made in advance to allow flavors to meld.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces cranberries fresh
- ½ cup white sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup orange juice
- ½ cup water
