The Best Deviled Eggs

The Best Deviled Eggs combine creamy mashed yolks blended with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sweet pickle relish, and a touch of horseradish for a balanced tang and slight heat. The filling is smoothly piped or spooned into halved hard-boiled egg whites, finished with a sprinkle of paprika for color and mild smokiness. This recipe suits gatherings and simple snacks where a bright, creamy bite is desired.

Description

The Best Deviled Eggs are a classic appetizer featuring hard-boiled eggs halved and filled with a creamy mixture of their mashed yolks combined with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sweet pickle relish, and horseradish sauce. The combination gives the filling a tangy and mildly spicy flavor that contrasts with the mild egg whites. The filling’s smooth texture is enhanced by gentle mixing and seasoning adjustment to taste. A dusting of paprika adds a subtle smoky note and a splash of color on top. These deviled eggs are served chilled, making them a refreshing starter or party dish. Adjusting salt at the end ensures the balance suits the specific mustard and relish used, avoiding over-salting.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 large egg hard-boiled
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish sweet
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish sauce creamy
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika for dusting

Instructions

  1. Slice 12 large hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise. Gently remove the yolk and place yolks into a mixing bowl. Set whites aside on a serving platter.
  2. Use a fork to mash egg yolks in the mixing bowl. Stir in 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish, 1 teaspoon creamy horseradish sauce, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper until well combined. Taste and add up to 1/4 teaspoon salt if necessary.
  3. Spoon filling into the centers of the whites or use a pastry piping bag to fill. Dust the tops with 1/2 teaspoon paprika. Chill in the fridge until ready to serve. Serve cold.

Notes

  • Adjust salt carefully after tasting, as some mustards and relishes vary in saltiness.
