This green bean casserole blends drained French-style green beans with creamy condensed mushroom soup, sharp cheddar cheese, and a touch of seasoning. The mixture is baked until bubbly and then topped with crispy fried onions for a textural contrast. It’s a classic side dish that offers a creamy, cheesy base punctuated by the crunch of fried onions, great for complementing a hearty main course.

Description

The BEST Green Bean Casserole Recipe combines canned green beans with cream of mushroom soup to produce a creamy yet light casserole. The addition of sharp cheddar cheese gives a distinctive tang and richness to the dish. Baking the mixture until bubbling ensures the flavors meld and the casserole is heated through thoroughly. Adding fried onions partway through baking keeps their crispiness, providing a crunchy topping that contrasts with the soft beans and creamy base.

This casserole works well as a side for holiday meals or everyday dinners where you want a familiar vegetable dish with some indulgence. Its use of prepared ingredients like canned soup and fried onions simplifies prep time without sacrificing comfort food appeal.

The recipe advises using French-style green beans drained well and a moderate amount of seasoning to balance flavors. The fried onions are divided to maintain texture, with some incorporated inside and the rest added on top near the end of baking.
