The Crispiest Sweet Potato Fries – Plain or Spicy

Ingredients

  • 1 lb sweet potato approximately 2 large or 3 medium potatoes
  • 2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon potato starch or cornstarch
  • SOUTHERN-STYLE SPICY
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • salt don’t add until you take the fries out of the oven, to taste
  • black pepper don’t add until you take the fries out of the oven, to taste
  • CUBAN STYLE
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon parsley dried
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic
  • ½ teaspoon onion
  • salt don’t add until you take the fries out of the oven, to taste
  • black pepper don’t add until you take the fries out of the oven, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Scrub the potatoes clean and peel (optionaand cut the potatoes into sticks or wedges, just make sure that they’re the same size so they cook evenly.
  3. In a large bowl or Ziplock bag, whisk or shake the 2 tablespoon potato starch, and spice mix of choice (optionatogether until well blended.
  4. Add the potatoes to the bowl/bag and toss them until they’re fully coated with the starch/spice mix.
  5. Drizzle the 2 tablespoon olive oil over them and then toss until evenly coated.
  6. Spread the fries evenly on the parchment lined baking sheet, making sure that they’re not touching or overlapping, which will result in soft fries
  7. Bake for 15 minutes and then flip all of them and bake for 15 more minutes, or until they’re golden brown and crispy.
  8. Salt and pepper them to taste and let them sit for 5 minutes. They’ll get crispier as they cool.
  9. Enjoy!

Notes

  • NUTRITION DISCLAIMER 
  • We found that potato starch is the best starch to use for making fries. You can use cornstarch or tapioca starch.
  • Best if eaten the same day.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in a 250F (176C) oven. 
  • Freeze in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months.
