The Easiest Foolproof Fudge
Description
The Easiest Foolproof Fudge uses semi-sweet chocolate chips melted with sweetened condensed milk and butter, forming a creamy base. By mixing in crunchy walnuts and tart dried cranberries, the fudge achieves a balanced texture and flavor contrast. After melting and stirring the ingredients until smooth, the mixture is spread into a lined pan to cool and set at room temperature or refrigerated for a firmer result. Once fully set, it can be sliced into squares for serving.
The inclusion of walnuts adds crunch, complementing the smooth, sweet chocolate. Dried cranberries provide occasional chewy bursts and a slight tartness that balances the richness. This fudge is suited for gifting or sharing at gatherings and can be kept at room temperature or refrigerated, adjusting firmness according to preference.
Storing fudge airtight at room temperature preserves its soft texture for up to one month, while refrigeration extends shelf life to at least three months and yields a firmer fudge. Refrigeration is recommended in warmer climates to prevent melting or softening.
Ingredients
- 3 cups semi sweet chocolate chips 18 ounces or 1 1/2 bags chocolate chips
- sweetened condensed milk one 14-ounce can
- ¼ cup butter diced into pieces, unsalted
- 1 cup walnuts Fisher brand, halves and pieces
- 1 cup dried cranberries
Instructions
- Line an 8×8-inch pan with foil or parchment for easier cleanup; set aside.
- To a large, microwave-safe bowl, add the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, butter, and heat on high power to melt, about 2 1/2 minutes but all microwaves vary in intensity. Stop to check and stir after 2 minutes and heat from there in 30-second intervals, if necessary, until the mixture can be stirred smooth.
- Add the walnuts, cranberries, and stir to combine.
- Turn mixture out into prepared pan, smoothing the top lightly with a spatula as necessary. Place on the counter to cool and set up fully, about 4 hours. If you are in a hurry, you can place the pan in the fridge to expedite it.
- Slice and serve after fudge has set up.
Notes
- Store fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 month.
- For firmer fudge or in warm climates, refrigeration for up to 3 months is recommended.
