The Greenie

The Greenie is a blended green smoothie featuring fresh apple and pear chunks, kale or spinach, mint, and green grapes combined with water, ice, cinnamon, stevia or agave, and lime juice. This mixture creates a smooth, bright, and refreshing drink with a balance of sweet fruit, fresh herbaceous greens, and a hint of spice from the cinnamon.

Description

The Greenie smoothie uses ripe organic green apples and pears, which are blended incrementally with water to create a smooth base. Fresh leafy greens such as kale or spinach add earthy notes and nutrients, balanced by the cool flavor of mint. Green grapes contribute additional sweetness and freshness. Ice cubes are blended thoroughly to chill and thicken the drink, while cinnamon adds a subtle warming spice. Sweeteners like stevia or agave nectar adjust the sweetness to taste, and lime juice brightens the overall flavor with a tart finish.

The texture is smooth and slightly thick due to the blending of fibrous fruits and greens, with no gritty bits when blended well. The drink is suitable as a refreshing beverage for breakfast or between meals, offering hydration and natural fruit flavors.

A high-powered blender helps pulverize the greens completely, resulting in a more pleasant mouthfeel without leafy chunks. The recipe yields multiple servings that can be divided into mugs as preferred.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 apple organic, ripe green, cut into chunks, core discarded
  • 1 pear organic, ripe green, cut into chunks, core discarded
  • 2 cups kale organic, roughly chopped, fresh, or spinach
  • 1/2 cup mint organic, roughly chopped, fresh
  • 20 green grapes chilled, or moscato grapes
  • 12 ice cubes
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon stevia we use 1 packet of Truvia, or 1 tbsp agave nectar, or more to taste
  • 1 lime (juiced, or more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 ½ cups cold water into the blender. Add one small handful of the apple and pear chunks. Blend till the mixture is thoroughly liquid. Continue adding the apple and pear chunks in small handfuls, blending each handful one at a time, till all of the fruit chunks are blended in.
  2. Add the greens and mint, one handful at a time, and blend in batches till all of the greens have been blended in. Add the grapes, ice cubes, cinnamon, agave or stevia and lime juice. Blend till the ice cubes are thoroughly crushed and the mixture is smooth. I blend it for at least 1 minute to make sure all of the greens are totally pulverized.
  3. Serve. Though it’s enough for 3 medium servings, my husband and I divide this recipe between 2 large mugs. There is always a little left over after we fill our glasses, which we usually polish off between the two of us. This recipe is the best health tonic ever. Each time we drink it we feel refreshed, energized and ready to take on the day.
  4. Note: Make sure you follow the steps in the order suggested. If you simply cram all the ingredients into the blender at once, they won't blend properly.

Notes

  • Use a powerful blender to fully pulverize greens for a smooth texture.
  • Adjust sweetener amounts to suit personal taste.
  • Serve chilled for the best refreshing effect.
  • Divide into multiple servings or mugs as desired; leftovers can be consumed soon after preparation.
