The Tuna Melt Of My Dreams
Description
This tuna melt features a moist tuna salad mixing mayonnaise with sweet and dill relishes, Dijon mustard, and dried dill, seasoned simply with salt and pepper. The flavorful tuna filling is layered onto thick sourdough slices with sharp cheddar cheese and tangy pickled onions that cut through the richness. Fresh greens like arugula provide a peppery crunch.
The sandwich is then grilled with buttered outsides in a skillet over medium heat to develop a crisp, browned crust while melting the cheese inside. This process results in a toasty, well-structured sandwich with contrasting textures.
The final product delivers a classic comfort meal with a mix of creamy tuna salad, melty cheddar, piquant onion, and peppery greens. It can be served plain or with chips or a side salad for a fuller meal.
Ingredients
- 10 ounces tuna drained, packed in water
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet relish
- 1 tablespoons dill relish
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon dill dried
- salt kosher salt
- black pepper kosher salt
- sourdough bread thick-sliced
- 4 to 6 lices cheddar cheese sharp
- onion pickled
- arugula or baby spinach
- butter softened, for spreading
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the tuna with the mayo, relish, dijon, dill and a big pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until combined. Taste and season with more salt and pepper if needed.
- To make the tuna melts, spread the outsides of the bread with softened butter. Place the cheddar slices on the insides of the bread, top with a few spoonfuls of the tuna mixture, then top with pickled onions and greens.
- Cook in a nonstick skillet over medium heat until the bread is golden and toasty and the cheese is melted. Serve!
