  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 teaspoons minced garlic 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven broiler. Adjust the oven rack so it is 6–8 inches below the broiler element.
  2. Slice the French bread in half lengthwise and place both halves cut side up on a baking sheet.
  3. In a medium bowl, use a fork or spoon to combine softened butter, olive oil, dried basil, oregano, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Stir until thoroughly mixed and smooth.
  4. Spread the butter mixture in a generous, even layer over the cut sides of the bread.
  5. Place the baking sheet under the broiler. Broil the bread until the edges turn golden brown and the surface is bubbly, about 2–5 minutes. Watch it closely because how fast it cooks is dependent on how hot your broiler is and how close your rack is to the heating element.
