TikTok Million Dollar Baked Spaghetti
Description
This baked spaghetti recipe uses lean ground beef cooked with diced onions, garlic, salt, and pepper, simmered in marinara sauce for a hearty meat component. The spaghetti noodles are cooked separately and tossed with a homemade alfredo sauce made from melted butter, heavy cream, garlic powder, and gradually incorporated grated Parmesan cheese that thickens gently.
The noodles coated in alfredo sauce are layered in a baking dish with the meat marinara on top, then covered with shredded mozzarella cheese. Baking at 350°F melts and browns the cheese, creating a creamy, golden crust with tender noodles beneath. A sprinkle of fresh parsley adds color and mild herbal notes.
This casserole is a comforting main dish suitable for family dinners or potlucks. Using quality marinara sauce affects the final flavor, with some preferred brands suggested. Handling the grease from ground beef by draining improves sauce texture.
The recipe lends itself well to advance preparation or reheating after baking.
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 onion (diced)
- 1 lb. ground beef lean
- 1 Tablespoon garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 28 ounce jar marinara sauce
Alfredo Sauce:
- 8 Tablespoons butter salted
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 cups Parmesan Cheese (grated)
- 1 lb spaghetti noodles
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese (grated)
- parsley optional, diced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add oil and onions and saute for 5 minutes. Add ground beef and increase heat to medium-high and cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Add garlic, salt, and pepper and cook for 1 minute longer.
- Drain any excess grease or blot with a paper towel before adding the marinara sauce. Add marinara sauce.
- Heat a large pot of water over high heat until boiling. Generously salt the water. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions. Drain.
- Make the homemade alfredo sauce by melting the butter in a pot, add the heavy cream and seasonings and 2 cups of parmesan cheese, only 1/2 cup at a time. Cook until it starts to thicken and bubble, about 3-5 minutes.
- In a 9 x 13 baking dish, toss the cooked spaghetti noodles with the alfredo sauce, then layer on the meat sauce, and then top with freshly grated mozzarella cheese. Bake until bubbly, about 18-20 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley, if so desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef (80-85% lean) and drain excess grease before adding marinara sauce.
- Recommended marinara sauces include Rao's or Carbone's for richer flavor.
- The dish can be prepared ahead and reheated as needed for convenience.
