Tony's Ridiculously Easy Homemade Salsa

Tony's Ridiculously Easy Homemade Salsa blends ripe tomatoes, onions, garlic, jalapeños, cilantro, and lime juice into a fresh salsa that can be made chunky or smooth. The addition of cumin, sugar, and salt balances the flavors while chilling allows the ingredients to meld. This salsa is versatile as a dip for chips or as a topping for nachos and chili, offering a bright and spicy complement to many dishes.

Description

Tony's Ridiculously Easy Homemade Salsa uses a combination of vine-ripe, Roma, or heirloom tomatoes with yellow onions, green onions, garlic, jalapeños, and cilantro for vibrant flavor. Lime juice adds brightness, while cumin and sugar provide subtle warmth and balance. Processing the ingredients in a blender or food processor to preferred consistency—from chunky to smooth—gives control over texture.

The salsa benefits from chilling for one to two hours or overnight, allowing the flavors to develop fully. This fresh salsa offers a slightly spicy and tangy profile with herbal notes from the cilantro, making it suitable for serving with chips or complementing dishes like chili and nachos.

Homemade salsa like this allows you to adjust heat and seasoning to taste. Fresh ingredients and the combination of sweet, savory, and acidic components create a balanced homemade condiment.

To store, keep the salsa in an airtight container refrigerated for up to one week to maintain freshness and flavor integrity.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 1/2 pounds tomato vine-ripe, roma or heirloom varieties, cored and quartered
  • 1/2 onion medium yellow, roughly chopped
  • 1 green onion ends trimmed
  • 2-3 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 2 jalapeño with seeds if you like heat, diced
  • 1 cilantro heaping handful, about ½ cup
  • lime half, juiced
  • Pinch cumin
  • Pinch sugar
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor and pulse until it gets to the desired consistency; you can make it chunky or smooth! I like a little bit of texture so I go with slightly chunky. Add salt to taste. Chill salsa for 1-2 hours or overnight to let flavors come together. Serve with chips, on nachos, on chili, or anything you like!

Notes

  • Store salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week to preserve freshness.
