Tuna Melt
Description
This Tuna Melt relies on simple pantry ingredients: canned tuna provides protein and texture, while mayonnaise and Dijon mustard bind the filling and add creaminess and tang. Finely chopped red onion adds sharpness and crunch, and lemon juice contributes acidity to balance the richness. The sandwich is assembled with the filling and cheese between buttered bread slices, then cooked over medium heat to create a crisp crust and a melted, gooey cheese center.
The cooking method ensures the bread is golden and crunchy while the cheddar cheese melts perfectly across the tuna mixture. This balance of textures — crisp bread, creamy filling, and stretchy cheese — makes the sandwich appealing and easy to eat. It's a comforting and portable meal that can be served hot.
Serving the Tuna Melt immediately after cooking ensures the bread remains crisp and the filling warm. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste, and include fresh diced tomato slices for extra freshness if desired. This sandwich fits well as a standalone meal or paired with a light salad or chips.
