Tuna Salad Recipe with Pasta

This Tuna Salad with Pasta recipe combines mini bowtie pasta, peas, red onion, diced dill pickles, and tuna in a lemony mayonnaise dressing seasoned with dill, salt, and pepper. The result is a creamy, tangy salad with contrasting textures and a fresh herbal note. It serves as a filling side dish or light main course.

Description

Cooked al dente bowtie pasta is combined with thawed peas, which remain slightly firm, and diced red onion that adds a mild sharpness. Dill pickles introduce a crisp texture and subtle acidity, balancing the richness of canned tuna and mayonnaise.

The lemon juice brightens the mayonnaise dressing while dried dill imparts a fresh, aromatic herb flavor that ties the ingredients together. Salt and black pepper adjust seasoning, allowing personal preference in final taste.

The salad can be served immediately or chilled, making it suitable for picnics, packed lunches, or casual dinners. It stores well covered in the refrigerator for convenient leftovers or meal prep.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb bowtie pasta mini size
  • 1 cup peas frozen
  • 1/2 cup red onion diced, or white onion
  • 3/4 cup dill pickle diced
  • 10 oz tuna (two 5 oz cans) drained, I used albacore tuna packed in water
  • 1/2 lemon juiced
  • 1 cup mayonnaise real
  • 1 tablespoon dill dried
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to boil. Salt the water and cook pasta until al dente. In the last 30 seconds, stir in frozen peas and cook for 30 seconds.
  2. Drain pasta and peas. If you want room-temperature pasta salad, don't rinse. If you want cold pasta salad, rinse with cold water.
  3. In the bottom of a large bowl, whisk lemon, mayonnaise, dill, salt and pepper until well combined.
  4. Add pasta, peas, onion, pickle and tuna and toss until everything is evenly coated in sauce.
  5. Serve or refrigerate covered until ready to serve.
