Turkey and Brie Sandwich
Description
This sandwich starts with artisan bread sliced lengthwise, generously spread with fig butter to add sweetness and depth. Layers of sliced or shaved deli turkey provide a mild meaty element, complemented by creamy slices of Brie cheese that add richness. Spring mix greens bring light crispness, while thinly sliced Granny Smith apples contribute a tart crunch. Dijon mustard on the top slice adds a sharp, slightly spicy note to balance the sweeter flavors.
Assembled simply with these components, the sandwich offers a complex flavor profile ranging from the fruity sweetness of fig butter to the creamy Brie and tart apple, all held together by sturdy, fresh bread. The sandwich does not require toasting and can be enjoyed immediately.
This sandwich makes a great lunch or light dinner option. Fig butter is a key ingredient that can be found in specialty stores or homemade by mixing fig preserves with butter. Using French bread or similar artisan bread provides a sturdy base that supports the fillings without becoming soggy. Leftover apple slices can be served alongside as a crisp side.
Ingredients
- 6 inches artisan sandwich bread (we found a French bread type that was wonderful)
- 3 tablespoons fig butter or fig preserves
- ¼ pound deli turkey sliced or shaved
- 2-3 ounces Brie cheese
- ½ cup spring mix
- 1 Granny Smith apple thinly sliced
- 2 Tablespoons Dijon mustard
Instructions
- Slice the bread in half.
- On the bottom half of the bread, generously spread the fig butter (as if you were making a PB&J).
- Layer on the turkey.
- Slice or spread the Brie (this can get tricky, just spread it on as best you can).
- Layer the greens and apples.
- Spread mustard on the top slice of bread and place on top of the sandwich.
- That's it! Seriously, best sandwich ever.
Notes
- Choose a flavorful bread such as French, ciabatta, or focaccia for best results.
- Fig butter is important for the sandwich's sweetness; substitute with fig preserves mixed with softened butter if needed.
- Brie cheese can be sticky when spreading; use fingers to evenly spread if necessary.
- Only a single layer of apple slices is needed inside the sandwich; remaining apple slices can be served as a side.
