Turkey Burgers

Turkey Burgers are made from ground turkey seasoned with garlic and onion powder, salt, pepper, and combined with breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, and Worcestershire sauce for moisture and flavor. Pan-seared until golden and cooked through, these lean burgers offer a tender texture and mild savory taste that pairs well with various toppings and buns or lettuce wraps.

Description

This recipe uses 93% lean ground turkey mixed with breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create a balanced seasoned patty. Mayonnaise and Worcestershire sauce are added to enhance juiciness and umami without overpowering the turkey’s natural flavor.

After gently mixing to combine, the mixture is formed into evenly sized patties, then seared in olive oil over medium-high heat until browned on both sides and cooked through, reaching a safe internal temperature. The burgers remain moist despite the lean meat and develop a golden crust.

Turkey burgers can be served warm on hamburger buns or lettuce leaves and paired with toppings such as sliced tomato, red onion, pickles, mashed avocado, or condiments like ketchup and mustard. They provide a customizable lean alternative to beef burgers.

When preparing, use a turkey brand that is less wet to help with shaping and handling the patties easily.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 oz. ground turkey I recommend using Jennie-O, 93% lean
  • 1 Tbsp breadcrumb plain dried
  • 1/2 tsp salt or as desired
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/4 tsp (heaping) garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp (heaping) onion powder
  • 2 Tbsp mayonnaise light
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Add ground turkey to a medium mixing bowl. Sprinkle in breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add mayonnaise and drizzle in Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Gently toss and break up meat mixture to evenly blend. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 1/2-inch thick.
  3. Preheat olive oil in a 12-inch non-stick skillet over medium-high heat for a few minutes.
  4. Add turkey patties and sear until golden brown on bottom, about 4 - 5 minutes, flip and continue to cook until cooked through, about 4 - 5 minutes longer. Center should register 165 degrees on an instant read thermometer.
  5. Serve warm in hamburger buns or lettuce leaves with toppings of choice.

Notes

  • Jennie-O ground turkey is recommended for manageable texture and ease of shaping; other brands may be too sticky.
  • Suggested toppings include mashed avocado, red onion, sliced tomatoes, pickles, ketchup, mustard, light mayo mixed with ketchup, or bacon and provolone cheese for extra flavor.
  • Nutrition information provided covers only the patties and does not include buns or additional toppings, which will vary by choice.
