Turkey Burgers

This Turkey Burgers recipe combines lean ground turkey with a seasoning blend including garlic and onion powders, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, bound with egg and breadcrumbs. The patties are formed and chilled before cooking by grill, skillet, or oven. Served on buns with customizable condiments and toppings, these burgers offer a moist texture and balanced savory flavor.

Description

Ground lean turkey is seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, egg, and bread crumbs. After mixing carefully to combine yet not overwork, the mixture is shaped into four half-inch thick patties. Making a thumbprint indentation helps the burgers cook evenly without puffing up. A brief chill stabilizes the patties for cooking.

Cooking methods include grilling over medium-high heat until a safe 160°F internal temperature is reached; skillet frying in canola oil or nonstick spray; or baking at 375°F followed by searing in a hot pan. Each method produces juicy turkey burgers with a lightly crisp exterior. The moisture from ketchup and mustard supports tenderness in the naturally lean meat.

Serve on hamburger buns with your choice of ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, avocado, bacon, mushrooms, or jalapeños. Variations like spicy burgers with jalapeños or bleu cheese additions can personalize the flavor. The recipe can be made ahead and frozen, making it practical for meal prep.

Spray pans well to prevent sticking and cook patties evenly.Chilling patties before cooking helps them hold their shape and prevents crumbling. For protein-style burgers, wrap cooked patties in lettuce instead of buns.Add ingredients like jalapeños or bleu cheese for flavor variations.Use almond flour in place of bread crumbs for a gluten-free option and choose gluten-free buns accordingly.Make ahead by forming patties and refrigerate up to one day or freeze for up to three months using flash freezing between layers to prevent sticking.
