Turkey Gravy

This Turkey Gravy is made by thickening turkey broth with cornstarch and finishing with butter, salt, and pepper for seasoning. The smooth, rich sauce is quick to prepare on the stovetop and can complement turkey dishes or any savory meal needing a flavorful gravy. Its simple ingredients make it adaptable and easy to prepare during holiday meals or anytime turkey broth is available.

Description

The Turkey Gravy recipe combines strained turkey broth with cornstarch, whisked together until smooth, then gently heated to activate the thickening agent. Butter is incorporated as the mixture begins to heat, adding richness and a velvety texture. The gravy is boiled briefly to reach the desired thickness, with salt and pepper adjusted to taste. This produces a glossy, medium-thick gravy well suited to pour over turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, or other complementary dishes.

The preparation uses room temperature broth and a straightforward technique of whisking and gentle heating, allowing easy control over the thickness by cooking time and cornstarch ratio. The subtle seasoning helps highlight the broth’s flavor without overpowering it.

If turkey broth is insufficient, chicken broth can supplement to reach 1.5 cups, maintaining the liquid volume necessary for the recipe. The gravy should be served warm to retain its smooth texture and flavor balance.

Instructions

  1. Whisk cornstarch into room temperature or cooler turkey broth until well combined.
  2. Pour mixture into a small saucepan over medium heat and whisk.

  4. Bring to a boil for 2-3 minutes, whisking frequently. Then remove from heat. If needed salt & pepper to taste. Serve warm.
