Turkey Swedish Meatballs

Cranberries give these Turkey Swedish Meatballs a delicious little zing to them, and the sour cream gravy is perfection.

Meatball Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 onion white; diced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries minced
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 egg large yolks
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • salt kosher salt; freshly ground; to taste
  • black pepper kosher salt; freshly ground; to taste

Gravy Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter unsalted
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups chicken broth or turkey broth
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • salt kosher salt; freshly ground; to taste
  • black pepper kosher salt; freshly ground; to taste
  • 2 tablespoons parsley chopped fresh leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, and cook, stirring frequently, until onions have become translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Combine ground turkey , ground pork, cranberries, bread crumbs, egg yolks, allspice,and cooked onion in a mixing bowl.
  3. Stir until well combined. ( I use my hands)
  4. Roll the mixture into -1 1/2 - 2 inch meatballs.
  5. Place meatballs into a large skillet and cook until all sides are browned, about 7-8 minutes.
  6. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Rinse the skillet out and melt butter in the skillet.
  8. Whisk in flour and lightly brown it.
  9. Slowly whisk in the turkey broth - and whisking contstantly- cook it until slightly thickened.
  10. Stir in sour cream and heavy cream, then add the meatballs back in.
  11. Cook another 8-10 minutes until the sauce is thick and the meatballs are cooked completely.
  12. Serve over egg noodles and garnish with parsley.

Notes

  • These are great with cranberry sauce!
