Turmeric Ginger Tea Recipe
Description
The Turmeric Ginger Tea Recipe uses small pieces of fresh turmeric and ginger roots boiled together with lemon slices, black pepper, honey, and a dash of coconut oil in filtered water. The turmeric is soaked during the boil to release its earthy and slightly bitter flavors, balanced by the sharpness of ginger and brightness from fresh lemon slices. Black pepper is included to enhance the body's uptake of curcumin from turmeric. The small amount of coconut oil provides the necessary fat to improve curcumin absorption, as it is fat-soluble.
After boiling, the mixture is strained to remove solids and served hot with optional honey and extra lemon slices for sweetness and further citrus notes. The tea has a warming and mildly spicy character with a citrusy balance. It can also be served cold if desired.
Leftovers can be stored in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to a week. Using dried turmeric powder as a substitute is possible, adjusting the quantity appropriately. Adding honey to hot tea helps it dissolve more effectively than adding it to a cold drink.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ inch turmeric root cut into small pieces
- 1 ½ inch ginger root cut into small pieces
- 3-4 lices of lemon plus more for serving
- Pinch black pepper
- honey optional
- 1/8 tsp coconut oil or ghee
- 4 cups water filtered
Instructions

Notes
- Refrigerate leftovers in a tightly sealed jar for up to one week.
