  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 14 ounces crushed tomatoes canned
  • 14 ounces diced tomatoes with juices, canned
  • ½ cup long grain white rice uncooked
  • 1 ⅔ cup water or as needed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 4 bell pepper any color, diced
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese shredded

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, brown sausage, onion & garlic over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain fat.
  2. Add tomatoes, rice, water, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and salt & pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cook covered 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in diced peppers and cook an additional 15-20 minutes or until rice is tender.
  4. Stir and add cheese on top. Remove from heat, cover with a lid and rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Add water gradually during cooking to ensure the rice becomes tender without drying out the mixture.
  • For a browned cheese topping, broil the shredded mozzarella before serving.
