Unwrapped Wonton Soup
Description
Unwrapped Wonton Soup is made by forming small ground pork meatballs mixed with green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, egg, cornstarch, and panko. These meatballs cook gently in chicken broth seasoned with soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Thawed mixed stir-fry vegetables and uncooked egg noodles are added towards the end and cooked until tender.
The soup combines tender, bite-sized meatballs with a light but flavorful broth accented by soy and sesame. Fresh ginger and garlic contribute warmth and depth, while mixed vegetables add texture and color. The egg noodles finish the dish with a satisfying chew, making it hearty yet balanced.
Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of textures and fresh flavor. This soup makes for a filling meal suitable when you want a warm, flavorful dish without complexity.
It is recommended to cook egg noodles separately if you plan to store leftovers to prevent them from becoming soggy. Frozen vegetables can be used but fresh vegetables are a good substitute if preferred.
Ingredients
Meatballs
- 8 ounces ground pork
- ¼ cup green onion sliced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon ginger fresh, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 ½ teaspoons cornstarch
- ⅓ cup panko bread crumbs
Soup
- 3 cups mixed vegetables frozen, for stir-fry
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon ginger fresh, minced
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 2 cups egg noodles uncooked
- 4 green onions sliced
Instructions
- Set out frozen stir fry vegetables to thaw (or prepare fresh vegetables if using).
- Combine meatball ingredients in a bowl until well mixed. Form into small ½" meatballs.
- Add broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Bring to a boil and gently add meatballs. Reduce heat to a simmer for 3 minutes.
- Add egg noodles and vegetables. Simmer an additional 8 minutes or until egg noodles are tender.
- Remove from heat and stir in green onions. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Cook egg noodles separately for leftovers; add them to each bowl to maintain texture.
- Use fresh vegetables instead of frozen for a brighter, crisper texture if available.
