Waffle Recipe
Description
The Waffle Recipe uses common baking ingredients to produce classic waffles. Dry ingredients of flour, baking powder, and salt are combined before mixing with beaten eggs, milk, melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract. The batter is mixed just until incorporated to avoid overworking the gluten. Portioning about half a cup per waffle, the batter cooks in a greased waffle iron until golden and crisp outside while remaining tender inside.
The cooked waffles are traditionally served with butter and maple syrup, making a hearty breakfast or brunch item. The recipe yields waffles that have a balance of sweetness and richness imparted by the sugar and butter in the batter.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt sea salt
- 2 egg at room temperature, large
- 1¼ cups milk at room temperature
- ½ cup butter melted (1 stick), plus more for serving, unsalted
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Preheat a waffle iron. Lightly grease it with melted butter.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a medium bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, melted butter, sugar, and vanilla and whisk until well combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. A few lumps are ok.
- Scoop ½ cup of batter for each waffle into a Belgian waffle maker, or scoop an appropriate amount for your waffle maker. Cook for 4 minutes, or until golden brown and lightly crisp. The timing will depend on your waffle iron.
