Waldorf Salad
Description
This Waldorf salad layers textures and flavors starting with tart and sweet apples cut into sizable pieces alongside crunchy celery and juicy grapes. Chopped walnuts introduce a nutty crunch contrasting with the fresh fruit and vegetables. The parsley provides a mild herbal note that brightens the salad.
The dressing unites these ingredients with creamy mayonnaise (or yogurt as an alternative), sweetness from granulated sugar, and tartness from lemon juice, balanced lightly with salt. Tossing the dressing gently coats the components without bruising the fruit or wilting the celery.
The salad works well served chilled as a side dish or light lunch, complementing meats or sandwiches. Garnishing with extra fruits adds visual appeal and enhances freshness. Its combination of sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy textures offers a satisfying eating experience suitable for many occasions.
