Warm Blueberry Sauce
Description
Warm Blueberry Sauce highlights the natural sweetness and tartness of blueberries enhanced by lemon juice and balanced with sugar. Simmering the mixture allows some berries to burst, releasing their juices and creating a luscious texture thickened slightly by cornstarch. The optional dried lavender buds introduce a delicate floral element that can be swapped for fresh lavender leaves if available. This sauce is simple to prepare on the stovetop and serves as a versatile accompaniment to desserts like ice cream, cakes, or pies, adding a fresh, fruity touch to sweet treats.
Ingredients
- 1 pound blueberries or frozen, fresh
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon dried lavender buds optional, culinary use
- Pinch salt
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients into a medium sauce pot. Set over medium heat and bring to a simmer.
- Stir and simmer for 5-10 minutes, until some of the berries burst and the sauce thickens. Serve warm over ice cream, cakes, and pies.
Notes
- Fresh lavender leaves can be used instead of dried lavender buds for a fresher flavor.
