Watermelon Lemonade
Description
The Watermelon Lemonade combines pureed watermelon juice with fresh lemon juice and granulated sugar, diluted with cold water to achieve a balanced, refreshing drink. The strained watermelon puree provides a smooth liquid base with subtle natural sweetness. Fresh mint can be added either directly to the pitcher or in individual servings for a bright, herbal accent. This lemonade is served chilled with ice, which also helps keep it cool and refreshing.
Its flavors work well for quenching thirst or accompanying light meals during warm weather. The watermelon and lemon provide both sweet and tangy elements that complement one another without overpowering.
When short on time to chill the ingredients, additional ice can be used to quickly cool the lemonade, though this will dilute it slightly. Keeping the lemonade refrigerated preserves its freshness and flavor.
Ingredients
- 6 cups watermelon chilled (2 lbs after peeling, cubed, seedless
- 4 cups water cold
- 3/4 cup lemon juice chilled, fresh strained
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar (more or less to taste)
- ice fresh for serving
- mint fresh for serving
Instructions
- Add watermelon to a blender and pulse until well pureed (there should be about 4 cups). Pour through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl.
- In a large pitcher whisk together water, lemon juice and sugar until sugar has dissolved. Stir in pureed watermelon. Stir in ice and mint (alternately add ice and mint directly to individual cups and pour lemonade over). Store in refrigerator.
- *If you don't have time to chill the ingredients then just use more ice in place of some of the water.
