Watermelon Lemonade
Description
To prepare Watermelon Lemonade, fresh watermelon is diced and rinded, then blended until smooth. The mixture is strained through a fine mesh to remove pulp, leaving a clear, vibrant juice. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is then combined with the watermelon juice to provide citrus brightness and acidity. Chilled water and simple syrup are added to adjust consistency and sweetness.
The lemonade delivers a balanced flavor where the natural sweetness of watermelon complements the tartness of lemon. The texture is smooth and easy to sip, with a refreshing finish. The recipe yield is about eight cups, depending on how much pulp is strained out.
Chilling the lemonade before serving intensifies its refreshing qualities. It pairs well with summer meals or can be enjoyed on its own as a revitalizing drink. The recipe is scalable and can be doubled, though making multiple smaller batches is recommended to avoid large containers that are difficult to store.
Stirring before pouring is suggested as the watermelon juice can separate from the lemon and sweetened water mixture over time when refrigerated.
Ingredients
- 6 cups watermelon 36 oz, cubed
- 1 cup lemon juice freshly squeezed
- 4 cups water chilled
- ¾ cup simple syrup
Instructions
- Dice the watermelon and remove the rind. It does not need to be perfectly diced, but you do want it to be small enough to where you can measure it accurately.
- Juice the lemons and set that lemon juice aside. (Make sure that there are no lemon seeds floating in the juice.)
- Next, blend the watermelon in a blender or food processor.
- Strain the watermelon juice. There will be a lot of pulp in it, so use a fine mesh strainer to remove this. I like to strain mine directly over the pitcher that we store and serve it in.
- Pour the lemon juice into the watermelon juice. Add water and simple syrup. Give it a good stir.
- Chill the lemonade or serve over ice!
Notes
- This recipe yields about 8 cups of lemonade, depending on pulp content and straining.
- Store in the refrigerator in a pitcher for up to one week. Stir before serving as separation may occur.
- For larger gatherings, double the recipe and prepare in two separate pitchers to accommodate volume.
